Original Scan

The woman on the far right in the original photo, the mother of the client, was a bridesmaid at her brothers wedding. This was one of the only surviving photos of her as a young girl. In this case the client wanted to have the image of her mother extracted out of the photo, enlarged slightly, and placed in front of a new background. It was very fortunate that in the original the mother was on the end of the line of people without anyone blocking her image.

Extract Subject

After scanning the original I cropped in on the young woman and with some careful masking I was able to remove everything from around her image creating a cutout.

Create Final Composite

The cutout is placed into a new background that has been slightly blurred to create a depth of field illusion. I also added a small amount of digital noise to the background so it would match the graininess of the original photo. After a final touch-up the photograph was printed at 6.5"x 10" on Epson's Enhanced Matte Photo Paper.

The total cost for this restoration including the reprint was $75.00
